7 Things We Actually Want from Abercrombie & Fitch Right Now, in 2015

Coming of age in suburban New England in the early-to-mid aughts, Abercrombie & Fitch was what I thought of as an aspirational brand. It wasn’t in the mall near my house, meaning that, when I did get to go, it was a really special occasion. Also, it was expensive as hell. Popping the collar on a polo with that little moose embroidered on meant you’d paid a pretty penny, and made the trek to spend it.

But incase you’ve been living under a sartorial rock, it’s been quite a few years since the put-together prepster look was considered en vogue—and stores like A&F (and American Eagle and Aeropastale) have certainly suffered the financial consequences. With modern teens shopping more at fast fashion retailers like H&M, Zara, and Forever21—with their constantly rotating styles of clothing—as well as more trend-driven boho stores like Free People, it’s been hard for those more staid stores to keep upand stay open.

So, in an effort to turn its fortunes around, A&F has undergone a revamp of sorts—offering trendier items, banishing overly-sexualized ads and imagery, slashing prices (yay!), ousting longtime CEO Mike Jeffries, and most recently, snatching a designer from Karl Lagerfeld. So far, its new strategy seems to be doing something good: Individual stock prices rose to $19.86, up 3.55% from Friday—though the company is down 33% for the year.

Still, I admit that I haven't so much as stepped into an Abercrombie in probably 10 years (aside from pausing briefly to gawk at the shirtless male models, who are now no more). So I decided to snoop around the brand's e-commerce site to see what it's serving up these days—and frankly, I was very pleasantly surprised! Sure, there are still some logo tees and embellished camisoles (blech), but there are also a ton of items that would look right at home in the wardrobe of any fashion-forward woman.
