6 Cliché Valentine's Day Foods We Secretly Love

Alessandra Bulow

From drugstore heart shaped boxes of chocolates to classy-slash-trashy retro fondue, we’re unapologetic about our affection for each of these cliché Valentine’s Day foods.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries
No roaring fire/Champagne accompaniment needed for this winning combo. Go hard on the cliché and feed them by hand to someone if you’re into that kind of thing but please (PLEASE!) go behind closed doors—seriously no one wants to see that in public.

Heart-Shaped Cake
For a couple, this bad boy might be the ultimate way to say I love you—it’s made by hand with love after all. If you’ve just started dating, it’s a good excuse to “go back to my place” after dinner. Even a crowd of singles at an “I Hate Valentinte’s Day” party will enjoy cutting into this chocolate heart.

Fondue
Nothing spells love more than a bubbling pot of gooey cheese. Or sizzling oil. Or rich chocolate. Even lady killa Justin Bieber’s attempts to woo with the melted goodness in his hit song Boyfriend: “Swag swag swag, on you/Chillin by the fire while we eatin’ fondue.”

Cinnamon Hearts
Sure they stick in our teeth and burn the tips of our tongues but these sweet yet stinging candies helped pave the way to our love for all things spicy. Consider them the childhood gateway candy to a current Sriracha addiction.

Drugstore Heart-Shaped Box of Chocolates
A last resort for V-Day procrastinators, some of these boxes o’ chocolate are actually pretty awesome as we found in a recent chocolate taste-test. Some of our favorite chocolates from the taste test are heart shaped and others like the ones shaped like hedgehogs (as in small spiny animals) are surpisingly anything but cliché.
