Not Kidding Around: Fashion Week’s Front Rows Are Filled With Babies

Before the start of New York Fashion Week, a Yahoo Travel employee walked over to Yahoo Style’s cluster of desks and asked if we happened to have any extra tickets to shows she could attend with her daughter, who happens to be a burgeoning fashionista — and a toddler. We all politely said we’d look into it and get back to her but as soon as she was out of earshot, someone said, “The only babies who belong — or are tolerated — at fashion week are North West and Harper Beckham.” Alexander Wang’s niece occasionally would get a pass as well.

But boy were we wrong. The trendiest thing at NYFW this season? Babies. And not even just A-list kids who were famous out of the womb like Blue Ivy and her creatively-named friends. Elizabella Dylan Bugliari is the 1-year-old daughter of former Charmed actress Alyssa Milano and she nabbed a front row seat during her first foray into the fashion world. At Marissa Webb’s runway, the baby wore a white top with a black tie, black skirt, patent leather shoes with a pink blazer to match her mother’s shirtless vest which she wore as a dress.

While Bugliari was a special bebe who gained access to a typically adults only show, day one of NYFW was actually chock full of special events just for tots. Ioni James Conran, who, according to her Instagram (42,300 followers strong) is “just out here tryna get that Gerber campaign,” attended the Paul Frank Industries Kid’s show at at Hudson Mercantile. Not only did she frow (front + row = frow), but the 6 month old, wearing pink sneakers, sweatpants, a white tee and fashionably tied scarf, got to sit on mom Coco Rocha’s lap. For the love of her kid, the model mom risked footprint and drool stains for the sake of fashion (she did change out of her white suit into a green minidress for Marc Jacobs’ party shortly after but still). Also at Paul Frank, which is apparently attempting to make a comeback with a younger demographic, was Skyler Berman (son to Rachel Zoe and Roger Berman) and lots of other unaccompanied minors.

Nike and Levi’s also threw a kids fashion-related event, throwing the only show at New York Fashion Week where Snooki could nab a front row seat, along with her son Lorenzo LaValle. Fellow New Jersey residents Melissa Gorga, Joe Gorga, and son Gino Gorga also trekked across the Hudson River for the night. Fabolous attended with son Johan Jackson, and Victor Cruz was there with his partner, Elaina Watley, and daughter Kennedy Cruz.

If further evidence was needed to support the fact that fashion week’s gone to the kids, Vogue wrote an article titled “Oh, Baby: The Essential Fashion Week Survival Guide for Front Row Kids.” The fashion bible recommends an early wakeup call met with green juice, #OOTDs comprised of Balmain jackets and Stella McCartney shearlings, and a $450 stuffed sheep for sleep time.
