'Whisper' Baby Announcement Causes Grandparents to Joyously Freak Out

A hilarious video of two expectant parents breaking the news to the soon-to-be grandparents is going viral this week.

Alexa Goolsby posted a video of her creative baby announcement to YouTube on Monday, and it has already been viewed more than 1.7 million times. She and her husband, Drew Goolsby, decided to share the news during family game night, and used The Tonight Show’s Whisper Challenge game as inspiration. In “The Whisper Challenge,” which has had Jimmy Fallon playing with stars like Blake Shelton, Rebel Wilson, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, one person wears headphones with loud music playing, while the other person says a random phrase. The person wearing the headphones has to try to guess what the other person said.

But during this version of the game, the phrase wasn’t so random. Alexa started with “I’m pregnant,” and her mother, Sharla Wood Anderson, immediately caught on, breaking into a huge smile. But when Alexa’s father, Robert Anderson, didn’t understand, Drew switched the phrase to “You’re going to be a grandparent.”

Robert — obviously an enthusiastic game player — has a tough time reading his son-in-law’s lips, shouting out “You are going to the beach!” and “I’m going to behave!” as his wife can’t contain her laughter.

But as soon as Grandpa catches on, his confusion quickly turns to joy as he breaks into tears, repeating “I’m going to be a grandfather!” and embracing his daughter — a real laugh-until-you-cry moment.

On Facebook, Sharla shared the video and explained that she and her husband were especially excited about her daughter’s news because they weren’t sure they would ever be grandparents. “The miracle is our daughter was told 11 years ago that she would struggle to conceive so we knew it would be a long journey for her,” Sharla wrote.

In her video post, Alexa calls her parents reaction “perfect.” And as she explains in a Facebook note: “This was definitely a game day for the books!”
