Fatherhood has made Prince William a royal softie. The Duke of Cambridge admitted as much in a revealing new television interview scheduled to air Monday night on Britain’s ITV.

“I’m a lot more emotional than I used to be, weirdly,” he admitted on “When Ant and Dec Met the Prince: 40 Years of the Prince’s Trust,” a 90-minute documentary highlighting the organization his father Charles established to “help 13- to 30-year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to transform their lives.”

“I never used to get too wound up or worried about things,” explained the former Royal Air Force search-and-rescue pilot, planning to journey to India in the spring with wife Kate Middleton. Now, he continued, “the smallest little things, you well up a little more. You get affected by the sort of things that happen around the world or whatever a lot more, I think, as a father.”

Since welcoming Prince George, 2, and Princess Charlotte, 8 months, the 33-year-old explained, “You realize how precious life is, and it puts it all in perspective. The idea of not being around to see your children grow up and stuff like that.”

Not that his new vulnerability is likely to make him doubt himself as dad to his baby girl and boisterous “rascal,” as William has called his toddler son, set to enter preschool — at the Westacre Montessori School Nursery in Norfolk — this month. “I’m just doing [fatherhood] the way I know how,” he previously told CNN. “You know, if it’s the right way, then brilliant. If it’s not — if it’s the wrong way — then I’ll try to do it better.”
