Adorable Toddler Loses It When He Meets the Garbage Men He Loves

Ah, potty-training techniques and bribes. When my son Jack (now 7) reached his goal — or should I say aim — I rewarded him with a trip to the mini golf course, M&Ms, and happy dances. We’ve all been there, right? For one little boy, it was hanging out with the garbage men that proved to be the ultimate prize.

Cincinnati mom-of-two Libby Kroner tells Yahoo Parenting that a three-day training method worked best for her two-year-old son Quincy, who loved washing his hands after each trip to the potty.

“It was three days of no pants around the house, lots of water, and frequent reminders to just try sitting on the potty. Accidents were dismissed and successes were treated like a party,” says Kroner.

Quincy’s parents promised him that when he filled up his potty training sticker chart, they would buy him a new toy. “He’s always been into trucks and vehicles,” Kroner says. “Since the day he started walking, he would run to the window to see the commotion of the garbage truck.” In fact, the truck’s loud “crushing” sound quickly became part of the toddler’s weekly routine.

The couple kept their promise and took Quincy to local toy store King Arthur’s Court, where the potty pro selected none other than a green garbage truck with plastic workers and a recycling bin. “The garbage truck idea was all his! He had seen it at the store, and had long wanted it,” says Kroner. “He loves role-playing with the garbage truck drivers.”

Kroner says the local garbage men, Mark Davis and Eddie Washington take time to wave and entertain the kids on the block — especially her son, who came up with a fun idea all on his own. “Maybe we can show the garbage men the truck,” Quincy told his mom.

“Of course, we loved the idea and wanted to support him,” says Kroner. Quincy and [my husband] Ollie approached the garbage men to show them the toy truck, which they thought was pretty cool.”

It seemed like a great photo opportunity so Ollie asked the guys if he could snap a photo of them with his son and his prized truck. “The noise, the smell, and the excitement came over Quincy,” says Kroner.

The best part: Quincy developed new friendships. “Mark brought his family over to the house. He has three girls who hit it off with our boys,” says Kroner. “He’s even sweeter than he looks in the photo.”
