I tried QWO, the newest cellulite treatment

From Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lopez, Serena Williams to Gwyneth Paltrow …. Women have cellulite. From the youngest to the oldest. Fit or unfit. It’s a fact of female life. Even the skinniest of models or the fittest of athletes have it. Cellulite is not scared away but how often you work out or how toned you are, it’s genetics. It’s the evil cellulite lords that have cursed us.

I have tried CoolSculpting and body contouring procedures, but I have yet to try one of the many cellulite treatments on the market. My hesitance was for two reasons 1) I have heard they hurt terribly 2) I have heard they don’t really work 3) I have heard they are expensive.

I recently read about the new QWO injectable treatment and I was finally swayed to give it a try. So this article is part one of my experience with it.  Here are all of my completely honest experiences, results, and feedback. Plus, all the questions I got answered along the way.  I visited Dr. Bruce Katz of JUVA Skin and Laser Center  three weeks ago and here’s what happened.

First of all, what the heck is QWO?

QWO is the first FDA-approved injectable for cellulite that removes moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. Great! I immediately thought…I am an adult woman who has moderate cellulite…please sign me up. Dr. Bruce Katz, who examined my butt to see if I was a candidate, actually told me I was more light to moderate. But nonetheless, there were areas he thought he could improve. GREAT! I am all for improvement in my butt.

Right now QWO has been approved by the FDA for use on the buttocks. However, Dr. Katz has also developed a special technique to also treat thighs which is showing promising results as well. I only received treatments on my buttocks – both cheeks to be exact.

What does this whole cellulite treatment involve? Here is what my appointment was really like…

The treatment is performed in-office, it involves no numbing and the injections don’t hurt. I am not lying about this. And, I think my whole visit to the office was slightly over an hour. I went to Dr. Bruce Katz’s office for a 10:00am appointment. I think I was out of there and back at my apartment by noon. Dr. Katz examined my butt and told me I had only a tiny amount of cellulite. Yay. But little pockets of dimples nonetheless. I was excited to never see them again.

I consider myself pretty fit. I do lots of squats, yoga, and all the things. But little bits of cellulite rear their head no matter what. As Dr. Katz explained to me, it really doesn’t matter. It’s genetic.

He circled the areas on my butt. Then I laid face down on the table. I begged for numbing agents or laughing gas. He assured me it was really not necessary. I begged again. Thankfully, he was right and it didn’t hurt at all.

He made teeny tiny injections. First on my right side. Then on my left side.

QWO requires three sessions and patients see results quickly – results can be seen in as little as 3 – 6 weeks.Yay!

What do the injections do? Where does the cellulite go?

The injections work to dissolve the buildup of collagen in the fibrous bands, which are bands under the skin that thicken and cause tension and the “dimpled” look of cellulite. Well…that is pretty easy right? Inject away…

How much does it cost?

Each session ranges from $695 – $995 depending on the number of areas the patient would like to treat. So, if you consider about three sessions and multiple areas, it is somewhere between $2,000-$4,000 all in. This cost is highly dependent on how much needs to be treated and I recommend consulting on the full cost before you begin.

What were the results?

Well, I was fine for the for the rest of the day. A bit sore form the butt injections but otherwise as good as could be.

The next day my black and blue marks started to set in. My butt got pretty sore. Then it got really sore. The bruising got progressively worse. The black and blue got pretty bad.  The areas he injected had huge black and blue areas surrounding them. But to be honest, it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle. And if this was all it was going to take to get rid of any dimples on my butt, then I was all in.

I am not going to lie…the bruising was severe. But, it is now three weeks later and all the bruising is completely gone and my butt is looking smooth. I am about to go in for my second round. Full results are TBD and will come in a following story. But my butt is looking pretty good so far and I am pretty happy not only with the results of this treatment but at the ease of the whole experience. I will keep you updated on the full results!
