This Woman Has Gone Viral On TikTok For Pointing Out Some Wild "Twilight" Theories And It Is So Interesting

TikTok user twilight_talk has gained a cult following in the past year, and with good reason. Under the pseudonym of Elizabeth, the TikToker is bringing back all the nostalgia and unhinged glory of the beloved Twilight saga, sharing her own deep-dive theories and opinions on the series.

It all started in August 2020, when Stephenie Meyer released Midnight Sun. Elizabeth told BuzzFeed she was "shocked that people were still as interested in Twilight" like she was, having been a fan of the series since she read them as a grad student in 2008. Her account started as a guide to the fashion in Twilight.

"Initially it started as just kind of a niche," Elizabeth explained. "I was pointing out fashion trends in the series, and then it grew pretty quickly. I think the first video that garnered a lot of views went up in February. When the movies came out on Netflix in July, things really blew up. I went from 50,000 followers to 150,000 followers in just a couple of weeks because people were seeing the movies for the first time in a very long time."

When she made a video about how short the entire timeline of the series is (just two years!) it blew up to 3.7 million views. Elizabeth felt she had found a community within TikTok — one where the niche details of Twilight were coveted content.

People began leaving comments with suggestions on what Elizabeth should talk about in her videos, including takes on popular fan theories or analyses on details about the books.

"It really is a continuation of the conversation about Twilight," she said. "So when people started saying, 'You need to talk about this, have you talked about this? Can we hear about this?' It was more like I was just responding to the community. That's how my content has transitioned into theories and stuff — it's really the community of people that I connect with that are coming up with these ideas and pointing these things out."

Now, with nearly 244K followers in just a year, some of her most viral TikToks are theories that fans have given their own life to — like this TikTok that explains how the vampires of Twilight aren't actually vampires at all, but rather, faeries.

The "Cullen faerie" theory happens to be Elizabeth's own favorite, too. It poses that, due to some of their faery-like tendencies (being glittery in the sun, living in a lush and wooded area, being uncommonly beautiful and fascinated with humans, and even drinking humans' blood), the vampires of the Twilight world are actually faeries who just allow everybody to think they're vampires for fun.

Other viral videos answer the questions we've all been curious about for a long time. Like, what does Edward do when Bella gets her period? (Which happens to be the #1 thing Elizabeth gets asked to talk about.)

Here's a hint: It has to do with dead versus fresh blood.

Or even what-if speculations, like what if Twilight was animated?

Or if they'd been true to the books, what if Bella was played by a different actor other than Kristen Stewart after being turned into a vampire in Breaking Dawn Part 1?

Elizabeth goes back to the text to fact-check every video she posts, and even now, keeps finding tidbits that pull her right back into the series.

"When I initially was reading Twilight, I think it was very much this kind of intoxicating feeling of first love, right? That's what drew me in the first time I read it, because I was there," she explained. "I was a big Edward fan. And I think now when I look back at them, I can see the toxicity in the relationships. I just find the whole thing fascinating now. 'Cause I'm trying to figure it out. I'm still pulled in, but I'm also looking at it."

"I love it so much, but I also can't stop picking apart all of the crazy things that are within it. And I think it's something that we just can't let go of. There's so much material there, and I feel like we're finding new, weird things every day, and there's a nostalgic feel to it."

The thing is there never seems to be enough content for Twilight fans, whether it's pulling apart Bella's (questionable) fashion choices or uncovering whether or not Bella and Edward had an abusive relationship.

"We will be talking about Twilight forever," she said. "It's been 15 years. We're still talking about it; I think that I could keep talking about it forever, probably. I have branched out a little bit lately, just because I can't read Twilight over and over forever, so I was starting to read some other young adult vampire books. On TikTok, I started talking about the Crave series, which is also totally unhinged."

But with the new life Elizabeth and other TikTokers are giving to the book come new discussions, too, ones that weren't being had in the first wave of Twilight mania back in the 2000s.

"Now you have older fans coming back to it with new eyes and new fans being like, 'What is this? This is crazy," said Elizabeth. "Whereas we didn't do that the first time. I think we're noticing problematic things in the books that we just didn't notice before. I have a really good time engaging with people about the things that are problematic that we should call attention to as well. And I think that that's been really surprising, that we can have these serious discussions about something that wasn't really serious the first time around."
