'The Office' stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey want a reunion movie

It’s the era of reboots, but The Office stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey dismiss the idea of giving their beloved mockumentary the same treatment.

“I don’t think that a reboot is the right idea,” Fischer said during a visit to BUILD Series in New York City. “So much time has passed, and many of our characters left Dunder Mifflin at the finale, and I think that it would just be very jarring and sort of weird to suddenly find us back in the office.”

Instead, Fischer and Kinsey both support the idea of a reunion movie, with a premise that brings all the characters back together in another way in 2019. They revealed that other Office alums are down with the idea, too.

“All of the cast members text and email about it,” Fischer said. “Like, we’re all really up for it.”

Fischer is especially nostalgic right now, she said, because she and Kinsey — who are best friends in real life — are rewatching the show for their new podcast, Office Ladies. They’ll be offering scoop on each and every one of the 188 episodes.

Steve Carell, who played the clueless Michael Scott for the first seven seasons, has also dismissed the idea of a reboot, mostly because the show is so intentionally politically incorrect.

“A lot of what is depicted on that show is completely wrong-minded. That’s the point, you know?” Carell told Esquire in October 2018. “But I just don’t know how that would fly now. There’s a very high awareness of offensive things today — which is good, for sure. But at the same time, when you take a character like that too literally, it doesn’t really work.”

After all, he noted, Scott was the definition of inappropriate behavior.
