More than 50 residents in a Virginia neighborhood have woken up to find old box set televisions mysteriously placed on their porches overnight. To make the occurrence stranger, doorbell surveillance video show a person wearing a TV on his or her head is behind the strange deliveries.
While Hampshire, Va., residents remain confused by the outlandish prank, they seem to admire the person’s tenacity.
"He's committed to his trade," Jim Brooksbank, a resident, told WTVR. "He wants to be known as the TV Santa Claus. I don't know."
Michael Kroll, another resident, told WTVR that "bored" college kids might be behind the televisions.
"They had way too much time on their hands if they had all these TVs and spread them all over the neighborhood," Kroll said. "I think it’s funny in some ways... Now if my whole front yard was covered with TVs, I’d kind of get upset."
"It’s summer, and people are getting ready to go back to school," Brooksbank said. "Maybe TV man was just ready to strike and put a little humor in our lives."
Lt. Matt Pecka with the Henrico Police Department confirmed to the news outlet that a person "wearing a mask resembling a television" left the unwanted, outdated TVs on a "majority of homes throughout the community."
The police department and county workers collected over 50 TVs so the residents would not have to take the televisions and pay $3 to dispose of them at the dump.
However, this is not the first time TV Man has struck.
In August 2018, residents in Glen Allen, Va., woke up to see approximately 20 televisions on around their neighborhood.
"I was leaving for work this morning and I go out the garage door. As I pass through it looked like I had a package on the front door," Robyn Schorr told WTVR at the time. "I told my husband to get the package off the front door."
Instead, her husband found a Toshiba FST Black Stripe television dated February 1986.
Police ask that anyone with information, or notices suspicious activity, to call Henrico County Police at 804-501-5000. Although, it is unclear if a crime has actually been committed.
