Stevie Wonder offers to appear on Eddie Murphy's 'SNL' episode, if he asks: 'He's a superstar'

Legendary singer Stevie Wonder hasn’t appeared on Saturday Night Live since 1983, but he’d consider making a return for Eddie Murphy.

“If he wants me to [be his musical guest], I can do it,” Wonder tells a paparazzo in footage published by Too Fab. “He’s a superstar.”

Murphy is set to host Dec. 21, which will mark his first time doing so since 1984, the same year that he left the cast of the weekend TV staple to concentrate on his career in movies and music. But while he was on the show, one of the impressions that he was known for was his take on Wonder.

The Grammy winner even once sang his song “My Cherie Amour” alongside Murphy.

The two stayed friendly over the years. Murphy ending up covering two of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s songs on his 1985 album, How Could It Be. Wonder performed with Murphy on the comedian’s 2012 Spike TV event, Eddie Murphy: One Night Only.

Ahead of Murphy’s — and possibly Wonder’s — return to Studio 8H, he’s starring in Dolemite Is My Name, the story of forgotten blaxploitation star Rudy Ray Moore.

The movie, for which Murphy is already generating Oscar buzz, is in theaters now. It’s available Oct. 25 on Netflix.
