Yahoo Autos The Porsche Cayenne Might Go All-Electric Soon
The Cayenne, Porsche's biggest SUV, could be turned into an all-electric vehicle by 2024, according to Autoweek.
The report, which cites an unnamed source, claims that former Taycan project head Stefan Weckbach, who has been in charge of Porsche's electric vehicle initiative since 2016, has been placed in charge of Cayenne development. This source believes this could only mean the Cayenne will eventually go all-electric in the near future.
Considering how many billions of dollars Porsche has pledged to EV development, this news doesn't come as much of a surprise. The company released its first electric car, the Taycan sedan, back in 2020, and announced the next version of its best-selling vehicle, the Macan crossover, would be a purely electric vehicle.
Like the Taycan and the upcoming Macan EV, Autoweek predicts the electric Cayenne will sit on a version of the company's PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture, which was developed in conjunction with Audi. It should also use the same 800-volt tech.
Autoweek thinks an electric Cayenne could make its way to market in 2024 or 2025 which, in the grand scheme of things, isn't too far off.
