Phil E. Chinchilla saw this couple through tough times
The internet's favorite chinchilla was the perfect addition to this family

MICHELLE GROSS: Phil is just very sweet, very loveable. He can actually be quite hyper, which is the typical temperament of chinchillas, but more times than not, especially when he's being recorded, he's very chill. My name is Michelle. I am Phil's mom. And this is Phil, my chinchilla.
In elementary school, one of my teachers had a chinchilla that she brought in, and I just fell in love with them. And one day, I just stumbled across Phil and just realized that he needed to come home and be a part of our family. Phil first came into my life when I was in the middle of getting my Master's.
And my parents were not very accepting at all of the fact that I was dating and now married to a woman. It was a really negative environment. And just saw Phil and knew that he would be that support for me.
[LAUGHTER]
He's had Instagram since 2014. And then it was once I got started on TikTok that he started to take off. We had been sending pictures of him holding signs, that was when people said, if you actually showed that within a video, I think it would really resonate with a lot of people. Phil also inspires me to continue paying it forward and spreading those positive messages to others because he is always such a positive source of light.
