Meet the VR Idols Responsible for Changing the Metaverse and NFT Space

Technology is constantly changing how we interact with each other and the world around us, and entertainers like AleXa and CC is Dreaming are doing just that. They're both recent contributions to the rise of virtual idols in the Metaverse and NFT space.

For instance, AleXa recently launched a party in the Metaverse, which is a digital universe. In her case, she created a virtual character based off herself in the space, becoming the first K-pop star to do so.

On the other hand, CC is not human but acts like it. She's an NFT-based character recently brought to life via a hologram at Art Basel in Miami. "Right now, most of the NFT projects are profile pictures that have a pretty thin IP and are mainly focused on building a community," Cynthia Cao, creator of CC is Dreaming, told Glossy. "But then, no NFT project actually has a backstory, has lore. None of them have this image behind it that can sing, that can dance, that can perform."

To better understand NFT, which stands for "non-fungible token," Collins Dictionary defines the term as "a unique digital certificate, registered in a blockchain, that is used to record ownership of an asset such as an artwork or a collectible." The CC is Dreaming brand has become much more than just that. Instead, CC is more like a personality.

"The crypto elements of virtual idols like CC mean that their music, expression and look will all be on the blockchain,” explained Cao. "And the artists behind the creations own all of the rights of their content in their own wallet. The ultimate vision is to build a parallel entertainment industry."
