Hypebae Speaks With Aleali May on MAYDE's Newest Drop

Aleali May's MAYDE has just released a new colorway, "Olive," offering its expertly crafted essential apparel for all genders, shapes and sizes in the verdant hue.

The fashion label's first drop presented a stunning cobalt blue shade, now presenting its elevated staples in a complementary green tone. "Olive is so versatile and can be worn as a neutral or as a pop of color. This second drop also introduces new silhouettes to the collection, which are all perfect for seasonal layering," May shares.

The sophomore launch features a timeless, classic silhouettes, alongside new cuts, such as an ultra-fitted sleeveless shirt, as well as figure-flattering cotton spandex bike shorts and a luxuriously oversized and cozy pullover hoodie.

As one of only two women to collaborate with Jordan and the first ever to design Jordan sneakers in both men's and women's sizes, Aleali May knows a thing or two about streetwear. While her accomplishments are astounding, they only mark the beginning of what is possible for the industry when it steps outside of the box. May shares with Hypebae over, "Gender inclusive brands are definitely becoming more of the standard because of the newer generation. We seek more style rather than trend, more personal connection to garments, rather than spending frivolously."

Despite being an industry innovator, May has had her shares of hardships and obstacles as she was pigeonholed growing up, revealing, "Before I could comprehend certain gender labels, I was always pushed as a young girl to wear pink, to wear skirts, to wear shoes with heels. As a young girl, I always liked sportswear, but with it being a male-dominated space, there were very little options, especially for really young girls."

She continues, "It's something today, I live out every time I’m putting an outfit together. This is an amazing and important time in history to express yourself, go for what you like, no matter what section that piece is hanging. For me, it's about embracing the many ways we think and feel."

We could not agree more. As for what fans can expect next from the Los Angeles-based brand will have them refreshing their browser as "lots of amazing releases" are "to come in 2023." May teases, "More colorways, silhouettes and one collaboration I’m excited to announce. I think people will really start to feel the vibes -- being open, free, and comfortable."
