FYI: 'The Holiday' And 'A Family Stone' Are Both Available To Stream On Hulu RN
- 1/29
1) Happiest Season
Named the first queer Christmas movie from a major studio, Happiest Season shows what it’s like to meet the parents for the holidays…when they don’t know they’re meeting you. Harper (Mackenzie Davis) brings her girlfriend Abby (Kristen Stewart) home for Christmas, but because Harper hasn’t come out to her family yet, they think she’s just a friend. Cue the classic holiday movie hijinks that lead both Harper and Abby on journeys of self-discovery and, ultimately, self-acceptance. With a supporting cast of Schitt’s Creek’s Dany Levy, Aubrey Plaza, and Alison Brie, you’ll add this one to your holiday movie rotation.

2) The Holiday
Nothing says “happy holidays” quite like a Nancy Meyers romantic comedy. An English woman and a Californian swap homes for the holidays and fall in snow-capped/sun-soaked love along the way. The all-star cast features Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, and Jude Law.

3) Dear Santa
People don’t often think of Christmas movies coming in the form of documentaries, so Dear Santa definitely breaks the mold. This film highlights the Operation Santa program that ensures letters to Santa get to the jolly man in the red suit. It’s a feel-good documentary that’s fun for the whole family.

4) Holly's Holiday
Holly’s Holiday plays on the classic rom-com trope of being torn between two lovers—except, in this case, the “perfect” man is literally a mannequin that comes to life. The titular character must choose between the one who’s perfect on paper and the one who’s perfect IRL. Isn’t that always a tough decision?!

5) Arthur Christmas
The whole outcome of one child’s Christmas lies in the hands of Santa’s son Arthur (voiced by James MacAvoy) in this animated movie. When one present is left behind, Arthur and his Grandsanta set out to make sure the lone child isn’t left out. Arthur Christmas makes for the perfect family flick. Just add hot cocoa!

6) Jingle All The Way
Any movie led by Arnold Schwarzenegger is a classic in my book. He stars as a dad consumed by his work, which leads to a forgetful holiday. Because of his oversight, he goes on a hunt to find the most popular toy of the year for his son: the Turbo-Man action hero. It’s literally every parent’s nightmare as chaos, inevitably, ensues. You can watch Jingle All The Way with the Starz add-on.

7) Saying Yes To Christmas
There are Christmas parties galore during the season. Now, imagine if you had to say yes to every single one you were invited to. (Yikes, no, thank you.) Indeed, that’s the premise of Saying Yes To Christmas. Not only does the protagonist channel Shonda Rhimes’ “Year of Yes” mentality while home for the holidays, but she also reignites a romance with an old flame in the process. Now, that’s how you do cuffing season.

8) A Christmas Movie Christmas
If you love Christmas movies, imagine if you woke up in one. When two sisters make a wish to Santa on Christmas Eve, they find themselves thrust into the world of a holiday film. What’s the worst that could happen?

9) Christmas On Holly Lane
Consider this the Now and Then of Christmas movies. Christmas on Holly Lane follows three childhood best friends as they reunite to save one of their homes. It’s a beautiful tale of friendship.

10) Christmas In The Heartland
Christmas in the Heartland takes the classic switcheroo plot and puts a holiday spin on it. (It was originally called The Christmas Trap, which tells you exactly what you need to know.) When two girls meet on a plane, they both realize they’re about to spend the holidays with grandparents they’ve never met. To spice things up a bit, they decide to switch places.

11) The Best Man Holiday
Sign me up for any film starring Regina Hall, Taye Diggs, Terrence Howard, and Nia Long. The Best Man Holidays follows a group of college friends that reunite for the holidays after 15 years. As you can expect, old feelings and past relationships start to surface. It’s sexy, dramatic, and fun all rolled into one film.

12) Writing Around The Christmas Tree
In an attempt to cure her writer’s block, a novelist ventures to her father’s winter wonderland for a writer’s workshop. There, she meets a non-fiction writer who is poised to be her muse. He convinces her that in order to write about love, you have to experience it. Smooth.

13) The March Sisters At Christmas
If the Christmas scene of every Little Women movie is your favorite, then you’re in luck with this modern retelling of Louisa May Alcott's famous novel. After all, what could make the holidays better than spending a few hours with the March sisters? Sadly, it’s not the same cast as the 2019 version, but this film is fun nonetheless.

14) Girlfriends Of Christmas Past
Forget the ghost of Christmas past. This holiday hijinks-filled film is all about the Girlfriends of Christmas Past. When a woman gets dumped by her boyfriend around the holidays, she finds two other women that he wronged. It’s a good ‘ole fashioned revenge movie with a dash of romance.

15) A Christmas Switch
If you love Freak Friday, this is the Christmas movie for you. Two moms with opposite lives wish for things to be different. And instead of reading a fortune cookie, they both reach for the same ornament—how festive! By switching bodies, they realize the importance of family and gain some Christmas cheer.

16) How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Jim Carrey leads this live-action adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss book. But the real star in my opinion? Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen as Cindy Lou Who. The fun film is perfect to put on while opening presents on Christmas Day—and you can do so with the HBO Max add-on.

17) A Dogwalker's Christmas Tale
Just crown Jonathan Bennett of Mean Girls fame the king of TV Christmas movies. A Dogwalker’s Christmas Tale follows a woman who takes care of her boss’s dog for the holidays. She then meets a handsome man—played by, you guessed it, Jonathan—who is protesting the destruction of a nearby dog park. The catch? Her boss is the one tearing it down.

18) A Nasty Piece Of Work
If you’re looking to add a little danger to your holiday movie marathon, A Nasty Piece of Work will keep you on the edge of your seat. When a man finds out he’s not getting the Christmas bonus he expected, his boss invites him over to earn it. The only issue is he has to beat his rival in a violent game.

19) 12 Pups Of Christmas
If your ultimate Christmas present is a dog, this movie was made for you. When a man struggles to keep his dog GPS locator company in business, a new person on his team must help return 12 puppies left at a photoshoot to their homes. Oh, and they start to fall in love during the process. No biggie.

20) Die Hard
Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. I mean, its central plot relies on the fact it’s Christmastime. So if you don’t want the traditional, mushy Christmas movie, watch Bruce Willis beat up some bad guys. FYI: It requires the Starz add-on.

21)
Holiday movie fact: Nothing is more powerful than a Christmas wish. When a woman makes just such a wish that her neighbor will fall in love with her, it doesn't go quite as planned since, well, she has multiple neighbors. The only logical fix? Enlisting the help of her actual crush.

22) The Truth About Christmas
The lesson of this cheesy Christmas rom-com: If you lie, Santa might curse you. In this case, a woman lies to get a toy from a child, and when Santa catches her in the act, he makes it so that she can only tell the truth. It’s perfect timing as she’s about to meet her boyfriend’s family for the first time. Not an ideal occasion to be overly honest, amirite?

23) The Family Stone
The Family Stone is a cult classic Christmas movie. Its loyal fanbase lives for the cast—Rachel McAdams, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Diane Keaton—as they mix and mingle at a family Christmas celebration. You can watch it with the Starz add-on.

24) Under The Christmas Tree
Yes, more queer Christmas movies, please! A woman on the hunt for a Christmas tree for the Maine governor (casual) finds the perfect one in a woman’s backyard. As they get to know each other, they fall in love along the way.

25) Deck The Halls
Everyone knows the people in the neighborhood who looovee putting up a lot of Christmas lights each year. Matthew Broderick and Danny Devito face off to be that person. Watch this LOL-worthy comedy with the Starz add-on.

26) A Christmas Solo
Aptly named, this holiday movie centers on a teenage rivalry over a Christmas solo. Caught in the middle are two single parents who unite to try to prevent a war between their daughters. As that happens, the Christmas magic rubs off on them and the parents start to fall in love.
Courtesy of Hulu - 27/29
27) The Man Who Invented Christmas
The Man Who Invented Christmas takes a look at one of the most prolific holiday books: A Christmas Carol. Dan Stevens of Beauty and the Beast fame plays Charles Dickens at the time he was writing the novel. Christopher Plummer also stars, and you can watch it with the Showtime add-on.

28) Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale
Who says horror is reserved for spooky season? A Christmas secret is hidden in the depths of a mountain. When archaeologists uncover it, they realize it was protecting them all from a killer Santa.
Courtesy of Hulu - 29/29
29) Prancer
What if one of Santa’s reindeer crash-landed in a small town? Prancer explores this as one young girl nurses a reindeer back to health in time for Christmas. In the process, she spreads her holiday cheer all around her. Watch the 1989 classic with the HBO Max add-on.
