Flash Flooding Washes Out Section of Interstate Near California-Arizona Border

Flooding washed out a section of Interstate 10 near the California-Arizona border on Wednesday, August 24.

The California Department of Transportation for District 8 said Interstate 10 was closed in both directions due to flooding and an overturned semi-trailer truck, which was causing traffic delays. Later, the westbound lane was opened while the eastbound lane remained closed “due to [the] washout,” the department said.

Authorities received reports of seven overturned tractor-trailers and one person injured, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The National Weather Service warned of life-threatening flooding as several inches of rain fell.
