We finally know the true difference between fruits and vegetables

When it comes to fruits and vegetables, most people probably think they know which one is which, but we’re setting the record straight once and for all.

Fruits are seed-bearing structures that develop from the ovary of a flowering plant. This means that cucumbers, avocados, zucchinis, olives and, yes, tomatoes are all technically fruits.

Vegetables are all other plant parts, such as roots, leaves and stems. Potatoes, yucca, onions and spinach are all true vegetables.

Who is to blame for the confusion, then?

Not to point any fingers, but culinary experts have often categorized fruits and vegetables based on taste.

Because of this, we assume fruits have a sweeter flavor and are used to make desserts and juices. Vegetables, on the other hand, are savory and often used as side dishes.

Labels aren’t everything, though. Both are good for you.
