Volunteers from six churches perform community service

SAVANNAH — Volunteers from six churches put their faith into action in order to share the love of Jesus with others in practical ways. The SERVE project, first organized in 2018, matched 75 volunteers to multiple projects across two counties for a local missions trip.

The volunteers ranged from 5-85 years old. They served 16 residents, two nonprofits and one school district.

During the three-day SERVE the Community, volunteers cleaned gutters, washed windows, pulled weeds, trimmed bushes, spread mulch, organized donations, stained decks, painted a room, built a ramp, installed gutters, patched one roof and replaced another and cleaned up a yard.

Lunches for the volunteers were provided by the Faith United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church of Savannah. Businesses donated funds and supplies to support the SERVE project.

Forty more volunteers participated in the SERVE the School mission. In addition to providing a special lunch for the school staff, volunteers helped Crestview teachers to prepare classrooms for the start of school. They organized supplies, stuffed folders, inventoried books, hung bulletin boards, cut-out name tags, changed ukulele strings and assembled art easels.
