Charli D'Amelio and other TikTok stars face backlash for traveling to the Bahamas amid pandemic: 'Putting so many lives in danger'
Fans are especially upset with Charli, who recently encouraged her followers to be safe.
Some TikTokers are facing backlash after they were spotted on vacation in the Bahamas during a global pandemic.
Recently, gossip account @TikTokRoom posted several photos and videos showing some of the app’s biggest stars hanging out in the Bahamas. This includes Charli and Dixie D’Amelio, Noah Beck, Chase Hudson, Avani Gregg, Madi Monroe, Anthony Reeves and Bryant Eslava.
Most of the influencers have been quiet about their trip on their own social media accounts, but on Dec. 28, Monroe posted a photo of herself lounging in the first-class cabin of a plane (sans mask) with the caption “I’m on my way @Bryant.”
Hudson played dumb in the comments, asking Monroe, “Where u going?” Not long after, he was spotted with Monroe and his other friends, apparently at the Atlantis resort.
In one video of Beck taken by a fan, a person in the background appears to be wearing an Atlantis shirt. Other photos and videos show Beck and Dixie hanging out by the pool and Hudson, Reeves, Beck and Eslava shopping at the Gucci store at Crystal Court.
Once @TikTokRoom broke the news about the TikTokers traveling, fans made it clear how they felt about such a “disappointing move.”
“They aren’t even trying to hide it anymore which shows that they don’t care they are putting so many lives in danger,” one person said.
“Can they just stay home?” another asked.
“How have they still not learned?” a third added.
Many fans pointed out the hypocrisy of Charli’s actions, seeing as mere days ago, she encouraged her followers to “stop being so inconsiderate to others.”
“If you’re using this time to hang out with your friends since you don’t have school, please, like I’m asking you, please stop being so inconsiderate to others,” she said during an Instagram Live. “You are putting other people at risk to get hurt and to be, like, in pain.”
Most of these influencers also live in Los Angeles, where stay-at-home orders were recently renewed as COVID-19 case numbers rise at an alarming rate.
“We could see the worst of it in early January,” California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly told reporters in an online briefing. “And most of the hospital leaders I’ve talked to in Southern California are bracing for exactly that.”
None of the TikTokers spotted in the Bahamas has responded to the backlash as of writing.
