Casa Lu Al to close

Jun. 6—LIMA — A long-time Lima restaurant will be closing its doors later this month.

According to a Facebook post on their page, Casa Lu Al Restaurant announced they would be closing its doors on June 26.

"We have provided Lima's finest food and its nicest people for over 60 years and have loved playing a spirited role in the local community," the post reads. "We want to thank all of our wonderful guests and employees for supporting us over the past years."

The restaurant, at 2323 N. West Street, has been a staple in the area for years. It is owned by Tony and John Venturella.

"What began as a little bar and lounge grew into a third-generation business that welcomed tens of thousands of guests and employed hundreds of people over the years. We are extremely humbled that so many embraced our restaurant, our family and our Italian culture," the posting stated.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have had something to do with Sunday's announcement.

"Like everything in life, all journeys have a beginning and an end and 2020 made us realize that life is precious and we cannot take anything for granted and after reflecting on this, John and Tony have decided it is time to retire," according to the posting.

The reaction was swift by fans of the restaurant.

Elizabeth Carr posted, "A Lima staple that will be TRULY MISSED!! Hands down the best restaurant in town & always greeted/served with smiles!!"

Gary McPheron posted, "It's not often we get to feel happy and sad at the same time, but this is that time. Happy for the guys who have worked hard and are retiring with dignity. Happy for George and whatever his future holds. Sad for the employees now needing a job, sad for myself because I get food there regularly. Best wishes to all of the Casa family."

Darrell Ball commented "Very sad news for those of us who have loved this restaurant and this family for decades. May God bless John and Tony in their retirement and George as he explores a new chapter in life. Best of luck and best wishes to all of you and all of the great people we have come to know and love over the years. Arrivederci e Buona Fortuna."
