I'm terrible at cooking rice. I lose track of time. I add too much water. My rice ends up gloppy or burnt (not crispy). Though I should say, "I was terrible at cooking rice."
Today, rice and I are fine, thanks to the Zojirushi Rice Cooker. The rice cooker, beloved by F&W editors, produces fluffy white rice that is easy to serve with the included paddle. The brand's "Fuzzy Logic" technology allows the cooker to make fine adjustments to the heat and time for the most perfect results. Even better—it's currently 30% off at Amazon.

To buy: Zojirushi 5.5-Cup Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker, $179 (originally $256) at amazon.com
The Zojirushi rice cooker solves a very simple problem for me. I often had undercooked or overcooked rice because I ignored the burbling pot to grab a sheet pan of Brussels sprouts out of the oven or flip pork chops searing in a Dutch oven. Now, I have fluffy, moist rice that is not the texture of baby food.
I opted for a three-cup Zojirushi rice maker, which makes enough rice as a side dish for a family of four and doesn't take up a lot of valuable cabinet space in my galley kitchen. If you make rice more than once a week or have a bigger family, consider the 5.5-cup machine or splurge on the 10-cup model ($187, originally $279). Both not only have a larger capacity, but also can be set ahead of dinner
I'm not the only one who believes this rice cooker, which has more than 5,900 five-star ratings on Amazon, has made their life easier. One reviewer wrote, "Cooking brown rice in this is incredibly easy and helpful. It's great to be able to set things up, in a matter of 5 minutes in the morning (rinsing the rice, programming the time, adding the butter, and know that when I get home, at a pre-arranged time, it will be done to perfection, just waiting for me...it's great."
And don't get hung up on the name of this appliance, rice cookers are more versatile than you might expect. "The capacity of this rice cooker is great for families of two to six," a user said. "You can cook many other items in it, not just rice. Mix riced cauliflower, quinoa, steel cut oats, and buckwheat with your grains...I like steaming Chinese sausage and Vietnamese banh mi han in it too. It is a wonderful cooker and will serve us well for many years."
Zojirushi's rice cookers aren't often available at such a deep discount. Take advantage of this Cyber Monday deal before it switches back to full price.
