‘A Very Brady Renovation’ creates emotional reunion for the former child actors

The former child stars of The Brady Bunch returned home Monday during the premiere of HGTV’s A Very Brady Renovation. The network paid almost twice the $1.88 million asking price in order to secure the home used in the original show, which they renovated to match the soundstage where the show was actually shot.

The home, located in the residential L.A. suburb of Studio City, Calif., was used exclusively for exterior shots so the interior bore no resemblance to what was on screen. To make the home match its television persona, designers built a 2,000-square-foot addition on the back of the home. They also lowered the living room floor a foot to make room for the iconic staircase.

Barry Williams (Greg), Maureen McCormick (Marcia), Christopher Knight (Peter), Eve Plumb (Jan), Mike Lookinland (Bobby) and Susan Olsen (Cindy) were blown away by the attention to detail. After seeing the home for the first time, the reunited actors were flooded with memories.

“I can remember all the scenes, the talks, the lectures that Mike Brady would deliver,” recalled Williams.

The real home brought real emotions to the actors, who missed their departed costars. “I think Florence [Henderson, who played matriarch Carol Brady and died in 2016] and Bob [Reed, who played Mike and died in 1992] would be very, very proud and amazed,” said McCormick, “Ann [B. Davis, who played housekeeper Alice and died in 2014] as well, because it's exactly like it looked when we were shooting.”

During the premiere episode, the exterior and living room were revealed. Each episode of the renovation special will reveal a new part of the house that has been renovated.

A Very Brady Renovation airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on HGTV.
