18-Year-Old Rescued After 198 Hours Under Rubble, Authorities Say

An 18-year-old man was pulled alive from rubble in Adiyaman, Turkey on Tuesday, February 14, 198 hours after deadly earthquakes impacted the country, Turkish authorities said.

Footage posted to the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Twitter page shows the man, identified as Muhammed Cafer Çetin, being carried along on a stretcher by rescue workers.

Z Haber reported that Çetin was removed from the rubble by mine workers.

By Monday morning, Turkish disaster management agency AFAD reported a death toll of 31,643 in Turkey, and the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Syria’s death toll had risen to 5,300, bringing the total death toll past 36,000. Credit: Kocaeli Metropolitan via Storyful
