Kings face the prospect of losing Matt Roy and Viktor Arvidsson to free agency
The past three Kings seasons were defined by additions, but they may now be facing a pair of vital subtractions. Defenseman Matt Roy and winger Viktor Arvidsson will be eligible to become unrestricted free agents on July 1 if agreements aren't reached before then. Roy proved his worth through steadiness and consistency, missing just one game in the past two seasons, for the birth of his child. Arvidsson may have better established his value through absences: in the 2022 playoffs against Edmonton when the Kings lost in seven games and across most of last season, when the Kings sorely missed his skill and aggression.

The LA Kings concluded the regular season with a topsy-turvy, 5-4 overtime victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday evening at Crypto.com Arena. With the win, the Kings locked in the third seed in the Pacific Division, setting up a Round 1 matchup with the Edmonton Oilers. Despite a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal for the Kings, it was Chicago that scored the lone goal from the opening 20 minutes of play. Forward Lucas Reichel did all the work himself as he chipped the puck ahead, split the Kings defensemen through the neutral zone and deked to the backhand on the breakaway for his fifth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead after one period in Los Angeles.
