Eastwood HS math teacher arrested, charged with improper relationship with student

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A former math teacher at Eastwood High School has been arrested and charged with having an improper relationship with a student, according to El Paso Police and the Ysleta Independent School District.

Police said that 33-year-old Ryan Anthony Avalos was arrested and charged with improper relationship between an educator and a student on Friday, March 1.

The Ysleta ISD confirmed that Avalos is a former math teacher at Eastwood and he hasn’t been employed by the district since Jan. 30.

Police said the victim was an 18-year-old female.

According to El Paso Police, an El Paso police school resource officer was contacted by school officials in January and was advised about the victim having a relationship with Avalos.

Police did not say what school Avalos worked for but did say he was employed by Ysleta ISD at the time of the alleged incident.

The Police Department’s Crimes Against Children unit began to investigate the allegations. During the investigation, it was learned that Avalos had started a relationship with the victim in early November of last year.

Avalos was booked into El Paso County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
