Youth Symphony performs for the deaf and blind in Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Youth Symphony put on a special performance on Friday, April 19 for students and staff at the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB).

“We are just trying to share our music and let people see amazing, young musicians who play very well,” said Gary Nicholson, Music Director for the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association.

Julie Harrison, Music Educator for CSDB said, Friday was one of the school’s favorite times of year as the Youth Symphony provides a multi-sensory student experience.

“Our students at the school for the deaf, their access to music looks very different than the students at the school for the blind,” Harrison explained. “A lot of times the vibratory aspects of music are really salient for our students at the school for the deaf… and our blind students are able to touch the instruments.”
