New York teen dies after post-prom party; investigation underway

New York State Police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old boy following a post-prom party.

Troopers responded to a residence in Evans Mills around 3:15 a.m. after a report of an unconscious male laying in the driveway. He was identified as Jordan P. Drake, 16, of nearby Theresa. He was transported to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown where he was pronounced deceased.

“Preliminary investigation revealed the male was attending an after-prom event at a private residence in the town of Theresa earlier in the evening. The investigation is ongoing,” the state police said in a statement.

No other details were made public.

The Indian River Central School District also announced Drake’s death, identifying him as a junior at Indian River High School. He was a member of the school’s football and golf teams, according to Syracuse.com.

The school district is making counselors available to students and staff. A number of events and activities to raise community support are also being planned.

“Jordan was an active IRHS student with many close friends and family ties throughout the community. Please join me in offering our sincere condolences and sympathies to all impacted by Jordan’s passing,” superintendent Troy Decker wrote on Facebook.

“We know our students and staff will lean on each other as they remember their classmate, student, friend, cousin, and fellow Indian River student. This can be a difficult time for everyone, but we remain strong as a school community.”
