It’s always nice to end the week on a high note, and we found just the thing. There’s a transgender bride on Say Yes to the Dress, which signals the first time that someone from the transgender community — which is in urgent need of visibility — has been featured on the series. We couldn’t be more excited for Gabrielle Gibson, who applied to participate in the show after her fiancé Jaden, a transgender man, popped the big question. She was accepted a week after she submitted it, and we say YES to that!

“This whole wedding, and getting engaged, and dress shopping with my mom — it’s been such an amazing feeling for me, because as a trans woman I never thought that I would ever get married,” Gibson told People.com.

In this exclusive clip from the episode, you can see Gibson trying on a wedding dress and receiving feedback from her friends and family. But the moment that really made us melt was when her mom Frances spoke about her daughter finding love.

“Seeing her say over all these years, ‘Oh mom, I’m never going to find anyone, I’m never going to get married,” Francis recalled in the episode. “And with how people have treated her. I’ve seen her cry so much, and it’s been a long journey to get to this point.”

In the interview with People, Gibson explained that she has a supportive family who love her unconditionally and “treat and respect me like the woman I was supposed to be.”

We hope that Gibson serves as an inspiration for other transgender men and women who might believe that they will never get the chance to find love, get married, or have the wedding of their dreams. “I just wanted to have an experience, and to show that we as trans people can love, and be loved, in a normal setting, and do things that are not out of the norm,” she said in the interview.

Best wishes to the beautiful bride and her fiancé!
