WPR changes format next week

May 17—SUPERIOR — Starting Monday, May 20, Wisconsin Public Radio's two networks, NPR News and Music and The Ideas Network, will be renamed and restructured as WPR News and WPR Music.

The Ideas Network will be retired, but its staff and the majority of its programs will be folded into WPR News, according to a news release.

All of WPR's 38 stations will shift format to either WPR News or WPR Music. Most listeners will be able to hear both services where they live, but they may need to reset their radios to get the programs they want.

Superior and Douglas County residents can dial in to 91.3 FM for WPR Music. WPR News will be available at 88.5 FM for the area immediately surrounding Superior, 89.9 FM for the rest of Douglas County,

Like others in public media, WPR saw some changes in broadcast and digital audience numbers during and after the pandemic, the news release said. The changes were made to ensure that the news, music, information and entertainment listeners look to WPR for will remain available for decades to come.
