Woodland police identify suspect wanted in deadly shooting. ‘He should be considered dangerous’

A search was underway Wednesday to find a homicide suspect accused of gunning down a man Tuesday at a Woodland home and then fleeing toward a local park.

Police are searching for 31-year-old Joseph Dyer, of Woodland, who authorities believe to be the shooter in a homicide early Tuesday morning, according to a Wednesday social media post by the Woodland Police Department.

Woodland police officers were told just before 1:10 a.m. Tuesday of gunshots being fired at a residence in the 800 block of Ashley Avenue. A man found at the scene died from his injuries, police said in a social media post.

Investigators searched for two men who ran from the home toward Ferns Park, just across the street, police said. One man, identified as 31-year-old Rigoberto Torres of Woodland, was found and arrested by police Tuesday afternoon.

A search of his home led to officers finding two guns, one of which may be the weapon used in Tuesday’s shooting, police said Wednesday. Torres gave the weapon to his alleged accomplice before the shooting, said police, who noted they are working with the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office and West Sacramento Police Department to investigate.

Torres, who was booked into jail, faces charges of homicide and possession of an assault rifle, police said.

Dyer is described as 5-foot-10 and 187 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair that is long on the top of his head and shaved on the sides, police said.

“He should be considered dangerous,” police said.

Residents who spot the suspect should not approach him or try to detain him. Anyone who has information about the alleged shooter’s location is asked to call police at 530-666-6612.
