WOOD TV8 announces new 7 p.m. team

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — WOOD TV8 is known for the only 7 p.m. newscast in West Michigan and today announces a new team to lead the broadcast. News 8 at 7 p.m. will now be anchored by Brittany Flowers and Storm Team 8 meteorologist Blake Harms. The duo brings several years of experience and great chemistry to this time slot.

“I am beyond excited to be teaming up with Blake Harms for the 7 p.m. newscast,” Flowers said. “I look forward to bringing everyone the important news they need to know, while also creating a fun and more lighthearted feel to an evening newscast.”

Flowers is a familiar face at WOOD TV8. She’s been anchoring WOOD TV8’s weekend Daybreak broadcasts since 2022 and reporting weekdays in the field for the Daybreak morning show since 2021. Flowers is a West Michigan native, a graduate of Jenison High School and Michigan State University.

Harms will join Flowers weeknights at 7 p.m. and is no stranger to forecasting West Michigan weather. He has been a member of Storm Team 8 since 2022. He’s a Hudsonville graduate and well known in the community for his popular school closing predictions that he’s been hosting with WOOD TV8 since 2019.

“I genuinely could not be more excited to be joining this show. The Seven provides us with a unique opportunity to show news in a different way, and there’s no one better to lead the charge than Brittany. West Michigan’s only local news option at 7 p.m. is found here on WOOD and we look forward to capitalizing on the opportunity,” Harms said.

You can catch Brittany Flowers and Blake Harms weeknights at 7 p.m. on WOOD TV8 starting on March 19. The 30-minute broadcast combines the day’s top local headlines, consumer news, community conversations and weather reports that look ahead for the next eight hours and beyond.
