Find out who won prizes at the Gaston County Schools Annual Art Show
Gaston County Schools’ Annual Art Show is currently on display on the first floor of Loray Mill, located at 300 S. Firestone St. in Gastonia.
This year’s theme, Through an Artist’s Eyes, brought in submissions from 38 Gaston County schools including elementary, middle and high school students.
Students were awarded in 12 categories, and one high school junior walked away with the Pinnix Prize, a $1,000 scholarship.
The Pinnix Prize was founded in 2003 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Pinnix, Inc. General Contractors, though it went away for some time before being reinstated for this year.
“We are thrilled that Pinnix has chosen the Gaston County Museum to carry on the legacy of the Pinnix Prize for our high school students. The scholarship is a significant and generous award that is meant to help a junior year student build their portfolio and apply for colleges,” Gaston County Museum Director Ali Pizza said in a press release.
This year’s Pinnix Prize winner was Ellory Lamp of Stuart Cramer High School, who submitted “Self-Portrait.”
