Another day, another person trying to shame a woman for doing something natural and life-sustaining for her child. This time, Avery Lane was breastfeeding her 2-month-old son at a H&R Block on the military post where she lives when the manager told her "cover up with a towel or something," according to a post Lane uploaded to Facebook.

Lane, who knew her rights - it's legal to breastfeed in public in Georgia, where she lives - told the manager, "No, but I have a muslin if you would like to cover your face."

Unfortunately, her straightforward approach didn't deter the uninformed manager, who asked her to leave (she was in the store with a friend, not for herself). But instead of backing down, Lane called the military police herself so they could educate him on the state laws. Sure enough, the police backed Lane up and told the manager he couldn't force her out of his store for breastfeeding. Lane says "one of the MPs told me that there is nothing wrong with a mother breastfeeding her child," which, duh, but kudos to the military police for doing their jobs and supporting a woman who's just trying to live her life.

"I'm only posting this because I hope more moms will stand up to normalize breastfeeding," Lane wrote on Facebook. "I refuse to cover my child or nurse in my car." And she shouldn't have to. Here's hoping her story helps more moms stand their ground in the face of breastfeeding shamers.
