Woman gets her $4k tax refund plus $464 prep fee returned; thanks abc27, including ‘the camera guy’

(WHTM)– Here is an update to a story we brought to you on Thursday; A woman caught in a frustrating loop, trying to get her four-thousand-dollar tax refund.

Virginia Rockmore on Thursday spoke calmly with us about the two-plus months she had been waiting for her four thousand dollars. But she told us – don’t mistake that calm demeanor, she was very frustrated.

That was after an H&R Block employee accidentally requested a paper check rather than the deposit onto a debit card she wanted.

Previous coverage -> ‘They have my $4,036,’ so she called abc27 News, and tax prep firm fixed mistake

That set in motion a series of problems.

When we left you Thursday, we told you the H&R Block told us it would take care of things right away.

Sure enough, Virginia texted me first thing this morning to say the tax money was on her card, and H&R Block was refunding $464 in tax preparation fees for her trouble.

“I’m about to pay my rent this for April and may puts me ahead, get groceries,” Virginia said. “It’s going to be. It’s just awesome. I really do appreciate you and the camera guy (abc27 News videographer Zackary Lang) for just listening to me. Thank you so much. I really mean it.”

Well, I know Zack and I appreciate working at a TV station that supports this kind of work.

All this is a good reminder though that however you file your taxes, whether you do it alone a friend or family member helps you or you use a professional service, double-check how the refund is routed before you file.

Even though, of course, it still shouldn’t have been this much of a hassle for Virginia to get her money.
