Woman fatally struck by Amtrak train in Lemont

LEMONT, Ill. — A woman is dead after she was struck by an Amtrak train in the southwest suburbs on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the victim, a 47-year-old woman, was hit by the train in Lemont, near the intersection of Main Street and Stephen Street around 3:30 p.m.

A spokesperson for Amtrak said the victim was “trespassing on the track” when they were hit by the 22 train, which was traveling from San Antonio to Chicago.

Officials said no other injuries were reported and the Amtrak is working with local law enforcement.

It is the fifth time a person has been hit by a train in Chicagoland in the last month.

On Monday, May 6, a 56-year-old man from Des Plaines was fatally hit by the #666 train in the 1500 block of Miner Street, on Friday, May 10, a pedestrian was struck near Palatine just before rush hour, on Saturday, May 18, a person was fatally struck by a Metra train in Des Plaines and on Thursday, May 23, a 48-year-old woman was hit and killed by a Metra train in Bartlett.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the incident and authorities have not yet identified the victim.
