Woman dragged into street in string of armed robberies downtown; 3 men sought

CHICAGO — A string of armed robberies that happened within a 30 minute span in downtown Chicago overnight are connected, according to police.

Police said they are searching for three men involved in the incidents, two of them had guns and the third was the getaway driver.

A community alert listed the times and locations of the robberies:

  • 500 block of South Racine Avenue at 12:15 a.m. Thursday

  • 700 block of South Clark Street at 12:27 a.m. Thursday

  • 600 block of North Fairbanks Court at 12:30 a.m. Thursday

  • 200 block of East Randolph Street at 12:40 a.m. Thursday

  • 100 block of East Wacker Drive at 12:44 a.m. Thursday

According to police, in each incident the men arrived at the location in a vehicle. They then exited the vehicle, displayed multiple firearms and proceeded to rob the victims of their personal belongings.

In one of the incidents, a 66-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk near the 600 block of North Fairbanks Court when she was approached by two men with handguns. One of them fired multiple shots into the air while another dragged the woman into the street until she gave up her belongings.

She was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is listed in good condition.

In the final incident near the 100 block of East Wacker Drive, three people were walking when two men jumped out of a gray car with guns.

A 28-year-old woman was hit in the head and a 25-year-old man suffered a cut on the hand and knee. A third 28-year-old man was not hurt.

Police described the attackers as being between the ages of 15 and 20 years who wore dark-colored, hooded sweatshirts and black ski masks. The vehicle used by the offenders is described as a silver 4-door sedan with a dark-colored painted passenger door.
