Woman dies in medical emergency crash on Highway 58: CHP

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One woman is dead after experiencing a medical emergency which caused her vehicle to drift off Highway 58 and crash into a fence Friday, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers responded to reports of a solo-vehicle crash on westbound Highway 58, east of Weedpatch Highway around 1:42 p.m.

Officials at the scene determined the 68-year-old woman suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the Toyota. The vehicle drifted off eastbound Highway 58 lanes and crashed through a barbed wire fence, CHP said.

The vehicle continued southbound through a dirt field and came to a stop on the south dirt shoulder of Kimber Avenue.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and provided medical aid to the woman, but she succumbed to an undetermined medical cause. She was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

CHP officers said it was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
