Woman dead after being struck by transport truck on TCH outside St. John's

Police are investigating after a woman was struck by a transport truck on the Trans-Canada Highway outside St. John's on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the RCMP, the woman was walking on the eastbound lane of the highway when she was hit. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nobody in the truck was injured, police say, and the driver showed no signs of impairment.

The incident happened near Thomas Pond, west of Paddy's Pond on the highway.

The province's chief medical examiner is investigating, as is a collision reconstructionist with the RCMP.
