Woman dead, 2 kids critical after crash near Calumet River

CHICAGO — A woman died and two children are in critical condition following a crash early Monday morning near the Calumet River.

CPD said around 2:30 a.m., a woman was driving an SUV westbound in the 3000 block of East 106th Street when she struck a pole. The woman died as a result of her injuries.

On Tuesday afternoon, the woman was identified as Paola Rodriguez Trujillo, 29, of Chicago.

According to police, after further investigation, officers determined a 5-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy were ejected from the vehicle.

A man known to police relocated the children from the scene to a hospital in Northwest Indiana, about 20 minutes from the crash site, according to CPD.

They have since been transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Police did not say if the man was in custody, nor did they confirm his identity.
