Woman charged with felony retail theft from Lewisburg Walmart

May 24—LEWISBURG — A Williamsport woman is facing her second set of felony retail theft charges in less than two weeks for an incident at Walmart in Lewisburg, according to state police in Milton.

Arilyn Marie Kurtz, 40, of Louisa Street, Williamsport, was charged with 18 felonies: 10 counts of retail theft by under-ringing merchandise and eight counts of retail theft by altering labels. Kurtz has seven previous retail theft convictions, police said.

State Trooper Kyle Phillips, of the Milton State Police Barracks, reported that Kurtz at 10:43 a.m. April 12 went to the self-checkout at Walmart, 120 AJK Blvd., Lewisburg, and allegedly under-rang multiple items for a total theft of $156.16 and allegedly used detached UPC labels for a total theft amount of $114.78. The total value of restitution is $246.94, police said.

Kurtz scanned the altered tag eight times, which altered the value to $3, and categorized the transaction as a thong, police said. She allegedly paid $24 in total.

Philips observed this incident on video surveillance, police said.

Walmart Loss Prevention reported Kurtz was caught under-ringing merchandise on May 9. Loss Prevention paused the initiated transaction and moved Kurtz to another register where she allegedly continued to under-ring the merchandise, police said.

Kurtz was allegedly found to be using a sales tag for a pair of socks that cost $1 to ring up a set of baby spoons and pajamas. The pre-tax value of this alleged retail theft is $19.54, consisting of $2.56 for the spoons and $16.98 for the clothing, police said.

Both sets of charges were filed in the Lewisburg office of District Judge Jeffrey Rowe.

Kurtz was arraigned and bail was set at a combined $10,000 unsecured. She is scheduled for preliminary hearings at 8:30 a.m. June 6 and 2:30 p.m. June 13 in front of Rowe.
