Woman arrested after hitting police car, fleeing, driving on rims in Stow

STOW, Ohio (WJW) – A 20-year-old woman has been arrested after driving on the wrong side of the road, fleeing from police while driving only on the rims of her car and hitting a police cruiser in Stow on Thursday.

According to a press release from the City of Stow Police Department, the department received multiple calls about a reckless driver on Kent Road near Holy Family Church just before 1 p.m. It was reported to police that a silver car was traveling on the wrong side of the road and almost caused multiple crashes.

The car was spotted on Graham Road, once again driving on the wrong side of the road, according to the release.

Eventually, officers spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it as it continued west through the Village of Silver Lake and then back into Stow. According to the release, the vehicle actively avoided police efforts to block it in.

Stow officers eventually stopped the pursuit when the vehicle entered Cuyahoga Falls. That is when the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department started a second chase, according to the release.

Stow officers used Stop Sticks at Graham Road and Hudson Drive, which flattened the suspects’ tires. The car then continued back into Stow, heading north on Hudson Drive and onto East Steels Corners Road, where the suspect struck a Stow police cruiser.

While driving on only the rims of the car, the suspect went south in the northbound lanes of State Route 8.

The suspect’s vehicle was eventually intercepted as she exited the highway near Graham Road, according to the release.

Michaela Rose Yensen, 20, was arrested and taken into custody. She was taken to the Stow City Jail and charged with failure to comply, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and multiple traffic offenses, according to the release.

She was taken to the hospital for evaluation and is set to appear in Stow Municipal Court, according to the release.

At least two additional crashes were attributed to the suspect during the course of the incident.
