As reported on News Center 7 at 5:30, 911 records indicate that Montgomery County Regional dispatchers received information that human remains were found in the area.

Trotwood police have not released any details about this discovery or what type of investigation may be underway.

One 911 caller is heard saying they saw police at their door via security cameras on April 22.

The dispatcher said they believed police would want to talk to the resident as they “found something out in that area.”

Through a public records request, News Center 7 obtained a text-to-911 conversation that revealed the information that jump-started the search for potential human remains.

“My friend was leaving... and said he found a couple of trash bags at the end of a driveway... and later,” the texter wrote. “Sorry, my roommate said they’re (sic) human legs.”

“I need to know an address to send officers to... you’re saying someone saw body parts in the trash bag at the end of the driveway?” a dispatcher said in response to the text.

Miami Valley Crime Lab Director Brooke Ehlers confirmed that the lab received remains from the Trotwood Police Department.

She said identifying the remains will be a challenge.

“Our typical go-to identification would be visual,” Ehlers said.

Ehlers said if the remains are human, the next steps in visual identification would include looking for markings, tattoos, low dose x-rays, surgical implants, or using dental records.

But if there is not an intact skull included in the remains, additional steps would be necessary.

“Our final step would be to use DNA, we could use blood, tissue and we can use bone,” Ehlers said.

Trotwood police investigators and crime lab technicians have not yet confirmed if the remains found are human.

If the remains are human, it may be a while before an identity is revealed.
