Winfield salon reopens weeks after destructive fire

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A Winfield salon that was burned beyond repair in a fire earlier this month is reopening in a new location.

Dreamcatchers Salon is back as the Phoenix Rising Salon despite losing nearly everything.

It’s taken weeks of teamwork and plenty of help from the community to get their new home open.

“This salon represents humanity and what can happen when everyone comes together and gives without question,” Sara Lawson, Phoenix Rising Salon owner, said.

Transformation, she said, started the day after the fire. A landlord with an empty unit reached out to suggest a new location.

“That night, we started cleaning, and then, the next day and then just for two and a half weeks straight, every day we were in here working with family and friends and strangers, and here we are,” Lawson said.

Fixing up the space meant painting the ceiling and walls and redoing the floors, but not without help from a surprising number of places.

“Every inch of this salon and everything in here was donated and has a story, and that’s just how we did it,” Lawson said.
