Wind advisory issued for SLO County — with gusts up to 45 mph

Hold onto your hats — strong winds are expected to whip through San Luis Obispo County on Friday.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Friday. Santa Maria, Avila Beach, Hearst Castle, San Luis Obispo, Lompoc, Lake Cachuma, Morro Bay, Cambria, Pismo Beach, Lopez Lake, Arroyo Grande, Nipomo, and the Irish Hills can expect winds blowing 20 to 30 mph with gusts reaching 45 mph.

The Weather Service said that tree limbs could be knocked down and other unsecured objects blown over, possibly resulting in power outages.

It also urged drivers to use “extra caution.”

“Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles,” the agency said.

Weekend weather forecast for SLO County

Friday’s weather forecast also called for a slight chance of rain Friday night, before conditions give way to sunny and clear skies over the weekend.

In San Luis Obispo, temperatures should reach a high of 66 during the day on Saturday before warming to a high of 72 on Sunday.

Conditions will continue to be breezy, with winds up to 20 mph on Saturday and 25 mph on Sunday.

The weather will continue to warm into the workweek, with highs reaching the upper 70s. The North County could even get into the 80s.
