Wilson community rallies to support a family displaced by fire

Apr. 22—WILSON — Multiple local businesses are raising money for a family that was displaced by a house fire over the weekend.

The Cookie Cottage and Wilson Brew Co. are soliciting donations to help the family who lost their home this past Friday night.

"It was amazing after a difficult day...to see how the community rallies when something like this happens," The Cookie Cottage wrote on their Facebook page.

Wilson Brew Co. will be raffling a wooden American flag and will accept monetary donations and gift cards for food, clothes and household needs.

"As the donations come in we will be giving it to the family weekly to help them with any costs that come their way," Wilson Brew Co. wrote in a Friday Facebook post.

Other fundraisers from local businesses include:

—Brownie's Custard Stand will donate proceeds from brownie sundae sales this week to the family.

—Three Sisters Garlic is hosting a raffle for a free weekly loaf of their specialty bread for six months.

—Joy-Full Creating will donate $5 from each Cinnamon Swirl Cake sold over the next two weeks.

Also, an Amazon wishlist has been created for people to purchase items for the family directly, https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/VXZLGI2YQJR2.

Monetary donations can also be sent to Wilson Brew Co. online through @Rebecca-McKeown on Venmo.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, crews from the Wilson, South Wilson and Olcott volunteer fire companies were summoned to a house fire at 279 Pettit St. in the village about 7 p.m. Friday and were met by smoke coming from the roof of the large two-story residence. Occupants of the house were evacuated prior to the arrival of a sheriff's deputy. The house sustained heavy fire and smoke damages.

The fire is being investigated by the county Origin and Cause Team and a damage estimate is yet to be determined.
