A Wilmington man is facing charges in connection with a vehicle collision that hit a young pedestrian.

On Sunday, April 14 at approximately 10:46 p.m., a trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated a collision involving an 8-year-old who had been struck by a vehicle on Gordon Road, according to a news release from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The victim was transported to a hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was located in a nearby apartment complex by law enforcement.

Joseph Chamberlain, 45, was arrested and submitted to an analysis of his breath for alcohol, according to the release. Chamberlain has been charged with felony hit and run causing serious injury, driving while impaired, and open container in the passenger area.
