Williamsburg Board of Education approves staff raises

May 23—WILLIAMSBURG — At their regular monthly board meeting, the Williamsburg Independent Board of Education unanimously approved a 6% raise for all certified employees as well as a $2-per-hour raise for classified employees.

There was substantial applause from those who attended the meeting Tuesday as the measure to increase pay was passed by the school board.

Board member Alan Steely jokingly quipped, "Does anyone want to go against that?" as the measure was put to a vote.

Superintendent Tabetha Housekeeper said, "These board members love this place. We have spent countless hours crunching to see if we could (give raises)...When we were trying to be conservative, (the board members) said 'more, more, more.'"

Many school districts in Kentucky have recently approved similar measures due to the increase in SEEK funding provided by the state legislature.

The Williamsburg Board of Education also voted to abolish the following positions at the school district: Director of Curriculum and Instruction; Dean of Students; Bookstore Activity clerk; Chief Information Officer; Plant Manager.

To compensate, they then created the following positions: Director of Innovative Learning; Assistant Principals both elementary and middle/high school; MTSS (multi-tiered systems of support) Director; Director of Transportation; Director of Facilities; Teaching and Learning Coach; District Administrative Assistant of BOSE; District Accounts Clerk; School Treasurer; Grounds Supervisor.

In a special-called meeting the day prior, the Board of Education held Superintendent Housekeeper's Capstone review.

Housekeeper received an Exemplary rating and was praised by the board for her excellence in administration.

Board Member Kim Williams said, "She received exemplary marks in all seven categories, and I just wanted everyone in this body to know and frankly the whole community to know...We just hope that the community supports her as much as we do."
