Wildfire reported close to Sequoia National Forest

SEQUOIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A wildfire is burning northeast of Sequoia National Forest in a region of Inyo County, according to state officials.

Cal Fire reports that the Cartago Fire has burned 101 acres as of Friday morning. The fire was first reported on Wednesday around 11:30 p.m.

The fire is close to the Naval Air Warfare Center China Lake military installation and next to Owens Lake.

According to Cal Fire, resources on the ground continue to strengthen control lines and damage inspection is ongoing. However, high winds and limited access to the burn sites are impacting efforts to control the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and officials say it is at 50% containment.
