Wife of Catawba County man jailed on felony child sexual assault charged with aiding and abetting alleged offenses

NEWTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The wife of a Catawba County man accused of committing nearly 20 child sex crimes was also charged Wednesday for the same alleged incidents.

According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, 55-year-old Debra Griffin was arrested April 10. She was charged with eight counts of aiding and abetting indecent liberties with a child and is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Griffin’s husband, 57-year-old Jeffrey Dean Griffin, was arrested March 15 on 18 charges, including first-degree forcible sex offense and three counts of first-degree statutory sex offenses. Authorities said the Catawba couple’s offenses reportedly occurred between 1995 and 2019.

Catawba County officials say Griffin has additional charges, but those haven’t been revealed to the sheriff’s office yet.

Debra Griffin has a court appearance scheduled for Thursday, April 11.
